The almond tree was brought to California from Spain in the middle of the 1700s and the early 20th century almonds began to grow successfully on the valleys of San Joaquin and Sacramento in the state of California. More than 6000 farmers fully meet the internal demand of almonds and provide more than 80% of world production. Almond is the most widespread nut-fruit crop of California in terms of money sales and sowing areas. It is one of the largest in terms of export of fruit crops in the United States.
California almonds are exported to more than 80 countries, making the United States the largest producer of this nut in the global industry. It is an interesting fact that despite a number of sowing areas, many manufacturers still remain family businesses.

In addition to almonds, the United States is the leader in the production of such berries as cranberries. Together with two other species, large-berry blueberries and grapes of the Concord variety, large-fruited cranberries is grown in commercial quantities. It is the main crop in the states of New Jersey, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Washington, and also in some districts of Canada. Some of the existing cranberry plantations are more than 100 years old, and they still bear fruit abundantly.

More than 180 species of dates grow in Iran. The provinces of Hormozgan, Kerman, Khuzestan, Bushehr, Fars, Sistan and Baluchestan account 98 % of the total production.

China is the homeland of another wonderful fruit – the kiwi or as it is sometimes called – Chinese gooseberry. Originally, this plant was called Yang Tao and translated as «strawberry peach». As it was 300 years ago, it is still growing in the northern region of China, Shaanxi Province. The familiar and widespread name «kiwi» appeared in 1962 thanks to the efforts of New Zealand producers, who decided to draw attention by an association with the famous little bird. Today, New Zealand is the leader in the export of kiwi and provides more than 50% of its world production.

The crop of Australian almond is harvested from February to April, while the crop of almond in the US is harvested from May to July.
